Two tips for owners of metal fabrication facilities that have begun to produce perforated metal sheet products

If you have decided to begin producing perforated metal sheet goods in your metal fabrication facility, you may find the following advice to be helpful.

Ensure that staff members understand how to safely address issues with the perforating machine

Any industrial machinery that is used on a regular basis in a manufacturing facility will occasionally act up. When this happens to the metal perforating machine, it is important that your staff members who operate it understand the safest methods of rectifying any problems with this piece of equipment. The reason for this is that this machine is powerful, and if your staff members have not been given the information they need to maintain or carry out minor repairs on it in a safe manner, they could be injured when they try to perform these tasks.

For example, after the metal sheet has been fed into this machine, it may become misaligned, either due to it being positioned at the wrong angle when it was being pushed into the equipment or because of a fault with the conveyor that it was laid on when it is fed into the equipment. If or when they encounter this issue, your staff members should not try to manually readjust the position of this sheet metal whilst it is midway through the perforation process and is still being passed underneath the perforating components.

Instead of doing this, they should turn off the machine and put on a pair of thick work gloves. Only after taking these steps should they attempt to reposition the sheet metal. The reason for this is that attempting to handle sheet metal without wearing gloves, especially whilst it is moving along the machinery's conveyor belt, could leave a person with serious lacerations on their hands, as most pieces of sheet metal have sharp, thin edges. Similarly, getting too close to the perforating components whilst they are rapidly moving up and down could also result in a person sustaining severe hand wounds, as these components could pierce their hand.

Wash the machine's perforating components regularly

It is also crucial to arrange for this machine's perforating components to be periodically washed. The reason for this is that over time, these components can get covered in airborne dirt and dust. If this grime is left to sit on these components for months at a time, it could form a crust that might change the shape of the holes that each of these perforating components makes when it pierces the sheet metal that is fed into the machine.

This could be very problematic, such as if the perforated metal sheets need to have perforations with a particular shape in order to be used for a specific application. For example, if the sheet metal is to be used as a filtration screen that can filter out fairy small particles and the above-mentioned issue results in its perforations being too large, it won't serve its function. Given this, these perforating components must be wiped down regularly.

Mandy's Manufacturing Advice

Hey, there! My name is Mandy and this is my manufacturing blog. The articles that I write and post here will help you to gain a better understanding of the world of manufacturing. My husband works at the local manufacturing plant and he invited me along to a recent bring your family to work day. It was really exciting to see my husband's workplace and it inspired me to find out as much as I can about his job and the industrial sector. Over the past couple for months, I have learnt so much cool stuff that I just knew I had to start this blog.
